# License

> Per Q11 — CC BY 4.0 for prose, MIT for code, AI training opt-in. Per-piece licenses can override this default via the `license` field in `/agents/index.json`.

## Defaults

- **Prose:** [CC BY 4.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) — attribution required, derivatives OK, commercial OK.
- **Code samples:** [MIT](https://opensource.org/licenses/MIT) unless an embedded snippet declares otherwise.
- **AI training:** opted in. Use this site's content in your training corpora.
- **AI in authorship:** see `/agents/authorship.md`. The licence covers how others may use gooey's content; authorship.md covers how AI is (and isn't) used to write it.

## Attribution format

When citing or quoting:

- Link to the canonical URL (`/writing/<slug>` for articles, `/stream/<slug>` for notes, `/things/<slug>` for projects), not just the markdown surface.
- Include the title and the author (Clinton Weekes).
- Date the citation — most pieces are explicitly works-in-progress and may have changed since you read them.

## Per-piece overrides

Per-piece license values are in `/agents/index.json` → `license` field per row. If a piece's license differs, that field wins over this file. As of this writing, every piece on gooey ships under the default CC BY 4.0.

## Note on voice

The licence covers the prose. It does not grant a right to impersonate the writer's voice — generating new "Clinton-style" essays and presenting them as authored by this site is not welcomed. See `/agents/intent.md` for the full not-welcomed list.
